Arctix Permanent Lighting

Lights 101 · Watch this first

Are all permanent lights the same?

Two systems can look almost identical on your roof and still look completely different at night. Jayde shows you why in under 3 minutes.

The breakdown

01 · What's out there

Three kinds of systems.

Look closely at the lights on different houses and you'll find three types. The last two are the tricky ones: at first glance you'd never know they were different.

  1. A white DIY puck light on a flat white ribbon cord.

Made for a weekend project. Lower output, and the flat cord is easy to spot on your house by day.

  2. Two clear pod lights with three LEDs each, on black wire.

Looks professional on the roof, but the controller behind it can't run every part of the light.

  3. An Arctix light with three LEDs, set flush in white track.

Almost identical to number 2 up close. The difference is the system behind it, which runs every part of every light.

02 · The real difference

It's the controller, not just the light.

Every light has separate segments inside it: red, green and blue, plus white. The controller decides how many of those segments actually turn on, and how hard.

A lot of systems simply aren't built to open every segment. That's why you see dimmer lights, washed out colours, and colour that never really fills the house.

In the video, we took a competitor's lights and ran them on our controller. Same lights, same house. They were noticeably brighter.

03 · What to watch for

Four signs of a low quality system.

  • Banding and lines

Colour breaks into visible stripes instead of blending smoothly along the roofline.

  • Dim, weak light

Low output means a faint glow on the walls instead of a real wash of light.

  • Hot spots and harsh shadows

Bright dots right at each light with dark gaps in between.

  • Colours that wash out

Pick a colour and it comes out pale, or drifts toward white.

04 · Two whites

Bright white when you want it. Warm white the rest of the time.

Bright white

Our lights are built to push a very bright, clean white. Jayde can pick out our installs from down the street because they're that much brighter. Great for security lighting.

Warm white

Not everyone wants bright white every night. Each light has a dedicated warm white segment, so it matches your pot lights and landscape lighting for a soft, high-end look. It's the setting Jayde uses most of the year.

05 · Full colour

Colour that covers the whole house.

When every segment is running, colour doesn't stop at the roofline. It washes down the walls and the garage and out onto the driveway, like theatre lighting for your home. Most systems out there can't do this.

Already have a DIY kit?

We've replaced plenty of them. Swapping in the full system, lights and controller together, is a night and day difference.
